Awesome southern cooking !!! Friendly people
Great local restaurant and good service!
Just being honest here. Service mediocre, always 3 steps behind with refills. White sauce was almost to salty to eat. No ketchup on table, no salad dressing for house salad, no crackers, dressing, butter on table before food got to table and it was a 30 minute wait for food to table. Restaurant was only 1/3 filled with full staff. Honestly not like the Elite I was looking forward to. I will say just the main meat, which was veal would have rated a 2.5- to a 3.0 star rating. I will have to think long and hard about going back. Looks like the only true downtown place is the oldest eating place in Jackson. The Mayflower.
They serve a delicious and traditional southern breakfast. Good portion size too!
This place has been serving Jackson MS for over 70 years. Good seafood and steaks.
Great food and service! I can't wait to visit again!
One of the worst restaurants I have ever ate at! When you first walk in you are greeted with the smell of mold & mildew. Ordered fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy with fried okra. Fried chicken was ok. I could've had better at popeyes. I had to remind the server of what sides I had. Mashed potatoes were instant and not seasoned. Was also served a side salad with no dressing. Wasnt even given any dressing until after the main dish was served. Service was horrible. I always tip generously but this time I didnt even leave one
My favorite place in Jackson! Great food, great service! Thank you!
The rolls are amazing. The staff is sweet. A little over priced for basic meal that you can get anywhere but it's in the city and 75 years old.
Hey All Well we tryed a new but old Restaurant in Jackson and it was like steping back in time with easy listening music laid-back atmosphere elegant dining find food I'm just a very good time and a small restaurant in downtown Jackson it is a must you go see and try it's an oldie but a goodie it's been in business for 70 years three or four generations of family has owned and operated this restaurant it's worth the try enjoy
The rolls are great. Highly recommend the enchiladas!
The Elite may have been the “elite” restaurant in years past but that ship has sailed. Still worth a visit. Mostly booths, waitresses in white, water brought to your table in small glasses, and other amenities nostalgic. Wide variety of entrees from fish, shrimp, steaks, veal cutlets served quickly and tasty. Small dinner salad with house homemade comeback dressing is a treat. Prices are moderate. Two problems for a southerner are NO sweet tea and bread pudding served cold.
Stopped off here for a quick lunch and wasn’t disappointed. This is one of the older lunch establishments in the downtown Jackson area. There wasn’t a long wait to get a table and the hostess was friendly as she sat us. Our waitress was courteous and informed us of the specials and got our drink order. The food came out pretty fast and had really good flavor. The prices were about right considering the amount of food you received and all in all it was a good experience. Definitely try the rolls.
Delicious homemade rolls, food was great, service great and the homemade salad dressing is delicious. Love to have the recipe!
Gluten free fried oysters, fries and salad - portions were just the right size. Great place to eat lunch and relax.
This has been our anniversary place for 46 years and sadly, the last two years the food and service have been a disappointment. We think we'll seek out a new eating establishment for future anniversaries. On a positive note, the owner has ALWAYS been the BEST!!
Not enough staff to handle business. Food mediocre. Some not. Cooked done.we had all eat before last meal brought to table.took forever to get drinks had to ask for refills.a very bad experience.
Didn't start off well but ended satisfied. They didn't have any pie (their only dessert apart from ice cream...which is for the pie) at 7:30 on a Friday night of all times. They don't make sweet tea (at a restaurant in the south that makes fried fish, fried pickles, onion rings etc) AND they were out of meatballs for their spaghetti. Ugh. Luckily their fried catfish turned out to be quite good, as were their rolls and onion rings. German pot roast however, that could use an overhaul...taste like liver sauced with tomato sauce and vinegar, surely even Germans know there are better ways to prepare and season meat.
Enjoyed lunch with family today. I have been dining here since I was a small child, this was my husband (from Tennessee) & our son's first time to try it. We all ordered iced tea, it was fresh, brewed perfectly & our server was refilling our glasses in a timely manner. My husband ordered fried shrimp, my son got the cheeseburger, I ordered the chicken fried veal steak. All of us received the most perfectly fried french fries with our entrees. We also ordered an order of fried dill pickles. Hot & crispy. The best yeast rolls were served hot with butter. Their comeback dressing was delicious. The only complaint was from my husband. He wanted a bigger salad. No room for dessert w, we were stuffed. Thank you for giving us hot delicious Mississippi food & gracious service. Good to be back home.
The food was awesome, the atmosphere matched. Get the smothered calf liver, it was amazing. The owner made you feel at home.
I am walking across the country to raise awareness to Veteran issues. Wonderful food, amazing staff. Thank you to the couple that paid for our meal.
Wonderful food and wonderful people!
No sweet tea just basic can soda
Worst food and service ever
First time, eating here. Was not pleased one bit. The waitress was horrible, she came to the table after sitting there for over 5 minutes, did not ask if we would like something to drink, asked if we were ready to order. They were not busy at all. We told her we were not ready, she walked away from the table did not come back until about 15 minutes later. The other waitress finally realize we had nothing to drink and got it for us. Then the waitress then decided to come back,we were placing our order, telling her what we wanted, being rude at this point, because they did not have certain things, what we were asking for. The fish we order was okay, but the new potatoes they served with it came from a can. The top sirloin steak we order, was not a fine cut and they got the order wrong on how it was to be cooked. The hamburger steak was to small and not enough fries as the side. Our bill was over 67.00. The place smelled horrible, like mildew. Would not recommend this place to no one.
Best place for veal, homemade fluffy rolls, juicy steaks, & spaghetti!
I've been going to the Elite since I was 10 years old (42 years). Our family would go for dinner on Friday nights growing up. Today I always get the same thing. Veal cutlet with white gravy. But I have had the enchiladas and they are awesome. They have the rolls market covered in downtown.
CLOSED WENT OUT OF BUSINESS DECEMBER 31
Deceiving name! Very unappetizing food with absolutely worst service at best !!!
A favorite. The rolls are always to die for. Tonight, I had the hamburger steak plate. Fries were good and hot and crispy, but the grease just stayed with them as they cooled. Gravy was fairly lumpy.Otherwise the meal was good.Just an off night, I guess.
A small, quirky restaurant with an old school atmosphere. The warm rolls were served with real butter, the flaky fish was cooked perfect and the salad a perfect size. The dessert wasn't worth it and the hostess was kind enough to take it off the ticket.
Loved this place since I was a child! Don't close!!
This restaurant is CLOSED as of Dec 31, 2019!
The red snapper is absolutely delicious. Love the atmosphere Great food and reasonable price. As always rolls are worth trip by themselves. Will be back soon
I see it closed. Not the least bit surprised. THE LAST time we were there the food was mediocre at best and the whole staff was RUDE . From the time we were seated to the time we cashed out.
Have been setting there since I was 19 years old and I'm 69 now they have the very best enchiladas homemade there with homemade rolls very good.
No longer a Greek restaurant!!! Great home style food. $10 blue plate lunch specials and breakfast prices that are reasonable as well. A short morning stroll from the downtown Hilton. Go here if you are downtown!!! Free parking as well.
